SANDDE is a new stereoscopic 3D animation system that allows the user to draw in stereoscopic 3D space, and sculpt lines as if manipulating a wire sculpture.

Using Sandde is a totally unique sensation–a highly responsive connection between the body in real space and your artwork in virtual space. The only way to understand what it’s like to draw in space is to actually try it.

That’s why we are hosting an intensive Sandde workshop at Studio XX on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 from 1-5pm. The workshop will be taught by Claire Blanchet, an NFB animator who has been involved in the development of Sandde over the last several years.

The workshop will include an introduction to the user interface, special concerns for working in 3D, and basic animation and drawing tools. The workshop is subsidized by Janro Imaging Lab, developers of Sandde software, as part of their ongoing commitment to making the tool accessible to artists.

Claire’s Bio:
Claire Blanchet is a Montreal-based artist. She grew up in Fredericton and studied dance, and holds degrees in studio art and philosophy. A love of drawing and movement led her to Concordia University’s animation program, where she graduated as a recipient of the 2007 Norman McLaren award. She welcomed a chance to be trained by Munro Ferguson at the NFB in the use of the stereoscopic animation system SANDDE, and has subsequently enjoyed the opportunity to work with SANDDE’s inventor, Roman Kroitor. Claire is currently directing a stereoscopic short film at the NFB, based on the short fiction of internationally acclaimed author Heather O’Neill.
