This workshop explores the relationship between scents, 3D digital creation, and memory. Participants are invited to interact with different smells and use creative writing as a springboard to “translate” these scents into 3D digital sculptures, either by digitizing clay models or by using the Nomad app on an iPad. These sculptures become archival manifestations of place and smell, whilst simultaneously testifying to the subjectivity and mutability of memory. Participant’s digital smell-objects may be incorporated into a virtual online rendition of AKA Herring Park, hosted by Allo Ada.
Simone Lucas Kłodawa was a summer 2025 artist in residence at Ada X, developing AKA Herring Park, which explores the preservation of odours as a form of memory preservation. The work interweaves oral history interviews, analog film, 3D graphics, and sensory materials towards the creation of an immersive diasporic environment. The scents explored during the workshop were gathered by the artist during site specific field work in Łódź, Poland.
