Caroline Hayeur

Hayeur is a member of Agence Stock Photo, an independent group of Canadian photographers. The exhibition and book entitled FESTIVE RITUAL : PORTRAITS OF THE MONTREAL RAVE SCENE have received international visibility, notably at the GLOBAL TECKNO in La Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris (1998), and at the Teknival SONAR in Barcelona (1999).

Since then, Caroline Hayeur has continued to document nightlife covering Paris’ first techno parade (1998), Moscow’s youth and bar scene (1999) and clubbing in China (2005). She completed an artist’s residency in Mulhouse, France (2001-2002), which provided the inspiration for the exhibition and the book, Tanz Party. She has participated in many international photography exhibitions, including La fotografia tra storia, fotografie della collezione [2002, FNAC, Milan], Escales Transcanadiennes [2001, Paris]. In December 2007, she launched a book covering her last exhibition, called Amalgat: Dance, Tradition and Spirituality. Since 2002, she has also developed animated versions of her photography to accompany soundtracks scored by Mylena Bergeron.

The Yin Yang Ladies Live performances were held in Montreal in June 2003, during MUTEK, at the Galerie Clark in October 2003, at the opening of MUTEK CL in Valparaiso, Chili, in January 2004 and at the Once.Twice: Festival of Sound and Video Art in Baltimore, USA in April 2004. Their video Chronopée A, was chosen for the FIFA (Festival International de films sur l’art) in the short-feature film program The Noise of Things, that was presented in Montreal in March 2004.

Their first collaboration on the theme of urbanity was a performance inspired by the Decarie Freeway held in May 2005 at the Montreal Saidye Bronfman Jewish Center. In 2006, they were invited by the Shanghai Duolun MoMA for a 2-month artist residency. During this residency, they worked on a in-situ project which was the first part of a series called Echo Cities ; « Our objective was to map the city in sound and images and to portray the intimate and social mutations of Shanghai » The final version called Mapping Territories : A Shanghai Story has been presented at the Duolun MoMA in June 2006 , at the Chinese Community and Cultural Center of Montréal in September 2006, during the festival La Nuit Blanche in March 2007 at the Ex-Centris Complex and at Studio XX’s HTMlles8 Contrôle des masses – Crowd Control, Festival for Media Art and Networked Practices in 2007.
