Macaroni Necklace for Mom

On the occasion of Mothers’ Day, students have invited 18 Montreal artists to create «a macaroni necklace for Mom». From the 5th to the 12th of May, 2012 at Studio XX in Montreal, Macaroni Necklace for Mom will be shown in a multidisciplinary visual art exhibition. Vernissage 5 May, 2012

What?
The idea to make a Macaroni Necklace for Mom has its origins in the beauty of simple ordinary things of daily life. A Necklace of Noodles is not only the king of kid’s craft, it is also the very symbol of absurd craftsmanship, having no commercial value in a world where everything has to be marketable. Nevertheless, the object conserves a lot of sentimental value, carried in the child’s intention to put together something carefully, with his or her Mother in mind.

Who?
This colorful, refreshing non-profit exhibition will include both established and emerging artists who excel in several disciplines: Agathe Bodineau and Valérie Robin (Fashion), Zipertatou and Fred Laforge (Visual Arts), Karim Charlebois Zarrifa (Interactive Media Design), Marmod8 and Tamé (Jewellery), Dominic Papillon (Sculpture), Alain Pilon (Illustration), as well as others.

Why?
Presented by La Chemise magazine the wish to learn by doing inspired 4 students in Communications, Design and Scenography to organize the project. Macaroni Necklace for Mom aims to stimulate the Montreal cultural scene as well to honour women under the umbrella of Mothers’ Day. One finds as well in this project, a desire to erase the barriers between different disciplines, media and other limits that are found in contemporary art.
