Mémoires de Rivière is a community-based digital archiving project designed to mark the transition to Espace rivière, a reinvented cultural and community space planned for the site of the current Rivière-des-Prairies library.
Through a series of workshops with artist naakita f.k., Ada X mediators and the Culture and Library team from the Rivière-des-Prairies borough, users are invited to explore the library and its surroundings to collect, digitise and document objects, traces and memories linked to the site before it is dismantled.
The digitised files are then incorporated by the participants into the Things+Time platform, a 3D digital archive of significant works and objects that aims to preserve ephemeral, undervalued or rapidly disappearing histories and cultures. This web platform, created by artist Liane Décary-Chen, transforms objects into multimedia storytelling devices through networked annotations comprising text, images and video.
In addition, the digitised files are being integrated into Ada X’s mixed reality platform (Web XR), Allo Ada, a virtual space for discovery, animation and encounters with artists. With the artist and developer Jules Galbraith, we are creating an immersive experience based on the archives collected by the participants, in order to connect and interact with them. These experiences will enable the work of the participants to be shared through mediation activities.
Workshops with the Rivière-des-Prairies borough’s Culture and Library teams, secondary 5 art students with Sylvie Vallée from Jean-Grou school, young people from the neighbourhood with Équipe RDP and families have helped to gather a number of memories and stories.
