Moboid game designer Heather Kelley has been involved in everything from AAA next-gen console games, interactive smart toys and handheld games to web communities for girls. Most recently, she was the Kraus Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Adjunct Faculty at the Entertainment Technology Centre at Carnegie Mellon University. Heather co-chaired the International Game Developers Association’s (IGDA) Women’s Group from 2001 to 2008.

Heather has a deep interest in experimental and non-traditional game design that breaks the mould of predictability to reach new audiences without sacrificing quality. She is interested in character narrative and player emotion design, interface and HUD design, game design for new audiences, design for women and girls, experimental design, design for handhelds and non-standard controllers.

She has worked on a number of outstanding games over the past eight years:
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Redbeard’s Pirate Quest
A.I. Puzzler

The game that interest and intrigues us most this month is Lapis: winner of the Design Challenge at 2005 Game Summit…

“I wanted to design a game that would improve actual sex in the world, and for an underserved population” says Heather to explain her motivations in creating this game.
